Sleep Deprevation
I envy my husband as he soundly sleeps while I am wide awake. Since starting my new job, I have logged 52 hours in the first week and have not been able to get my normal 8 hours of sleep. That along with my mind which just won't shut off, thinking about my new job and all I have to do, and you get insomnia. Thankfully, my husband doesn't snore. Counting sheep doesn't help either!
This illustration isn't quite finished but I wanted to post what I have in the event I don't have time to finish it before Thursday.

Maggie, how about shooting some little daggers in snoring husband's direction? Then you could try counting those ;D.
I like it and I am familiar with little sleep, because I want to drwa a lot besides my job as a teacher...
I should sleep right now! ;-D

Congratulations on the new job Maggie. Great theme for your illustration, I can relate! Hope that sleep comes soon.
I love it...very cute illo. Sorry about the lack of sleep.

Good depiction. It's definitely something I can relate to.
Just as well you only drink one Decafe a day! Trick is to bore yourself, maybe sheep are too interesting. Nice illustration.
I also suffer from insomnia while my husband sleeps peacefully. I hope that as you get settled into your new job, you'll be able to settle into a better sleep pattern.
Good luck and congratulations! :0)
This is so bizzare. It's 3:11 am. Can't sleep. So I decided to scrool through the messages from the Everyday Matters group. The link to this illustration just happened to be the first one I clicked on.
Glad I'm not alone. Maybe I'll try going back to bed now. :-)
I love this picture! The round design - clock, sheep, zzzes and the surrounding circle - make for a strong design. I also like the pathos it expresses and yes, it covers the theme beautifully. I can't imagine how this picture could be made any better - perfect!
Laura-My husband doesn't snore and is just the greatest guy so I could never do that! ;)
Dagmar- I too stay up too late when working on an illustration, however these days I am just so bushed I just want to sleep. Luckily, this concept was an easy one and took me just a short time to illustrate.
Michelle, Violetismycolor & Ms Elle- Thank you, I am really enjoying my new job despite being tired.
Anonymous-Hmmm what could I think of that is boring enough to lull me to sleep? Work that is repetitive, that is definitely boring! Luckily, I don't have much of that in my new job. I need to leave earlier in the morning to stop for a Starbuck's. The decaf at work is ok, but doesn't compare.
AravisArwen- I am sure once things settle down and I am more comfortable with my job, that "sleeping like a rock" will come. Boy, I can't wait!!! Thank you for the congrats!
Chuck Rose- now if only I could be productive and illustrate when I have insomnia, but I am just too tired! Are you able to?
Ian T-Thank you, thank you for your warm appraisal of my work. I find it interesting that my "quick" concepts and illustrations turn out to be a more successful than those I labor over. I'll try to remember that for the next IF theme.
Congratulations Maggie!:)
hehe This is what I sometimes come face to face too! hours and hours trying to sleep while everone else is sleeping ! :(
great idea ! very nicely done !:)
Congratulations on the new position! This illo would be great for "envy" too. hahaha! I know I envy my husband often, that guy can fall asleep just about anywhere.
Nuray- It seems I am not alone in my lack of sleep and thank you!
Roz- Thank you for the congrats, I love my new job! This illo was done for "envy", I just titled it a bit differently. I came up with the concept while my company was here over the Memorial Day weekend.
guess I didn't look through all the links when this was posted as I missed it completely. . . so forgive my lateness ! but wonderful illo, nice concept for envy, love the design of it, the colors, and how it moves your eye throughout !
Cin- No matter...I always appreciated comments no matter when they are received. Sometimes I too don't get around to view everyone's work until a stolen moment and then I feel guilty if I just quickly view a site then hop into bed without leaving a comment, because I am bushed.
Thank you, thank you, for taking the time to leave a comment and your warm appraisal of my work!
What an interesting and revealing illustration. And good luck with the new job.
