Summer Time
Since I posted so late for "digital", I am again going to post this for IF's "summer" theme, with hopes of finishing another idea I have in mind some time this week.

I grew up on the Great Lakes of Michigan and spent every day on the beach hanging out with my friends. Now, my children do the same. When you live near the water, your summers are spent swimming, sunbathing, boating, skiing, windsurfing, bonfires and picnicing.
I miss living on the Great Lakes of MI and the beautiful summer days spent lazing in the sun. We are planning a 2 week trip home at the end of June and I can hardly wait to sit on my parent's deck and watch the ships go by.
You may have heard of the "Edmund Fitzgerald" a huge ship that sunk during a terrible storm in Lake Superior in 1975. All 29 crew members died. There was a song created by Gordon Lightfoot called "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" (1976 Moose Music, Ltd.) One of my parent's close friends, "Bill" worked on a similar ship at the time, so when this happened we were very concerned as to his safety. Remembering all this now brings a moment of silence and reflection of those who lost their lives and the families they left behind.
What kind of memories of summer do you have? I would love to hear about them.

Very hip illo! As a teenager living in Malta we spent all summer (beside the morning of school) at the beach, with a huge group of friends, it is a great memory (except for that one crocheted bathing suit episode)
Tee Hee. I too had a crochet bathing suit. I lined the inside so it wasn't so peek-a-boo.
Do tell what episode you are referring to!
I love the difference from your black and white example 'digital' photo. Interesting how the center fellow has changed his preference between the women on the right.
Yep, also had a cotton crochet cozzie, it sagged when heavy with water. Mother nearly fainted when seeing my first self paid clothing item.
Spent six weeks living in a house on a beach in Queensland Australia each Summer when growing up. Fished from sunup until sundown when not saving baby turtles, baking, swimming or roller skating.
I like this illustration. Looks exactly like posed picture!
I have memories of living in Colorado one summer, hiking and day trips to the Washington State Coast.
like the changes you've made in the background, beautiful bright summer colors
I wanna be in that picture, they look like a fun crowd!
I am from Michigan. Summer was always spent at the beach or on a boat. Unfortunately I don't have all the free time as I once did. I like to visit my mom "up north". (a friend from Texas commented:"Ya'lls already up north!") My mom lives on an inland lake between Cadillac and Clare and we like to spend time on the pontoon.
It's been a VERY HOT June. The weather finally cooled off today. I can't complain!
This has a nice nostalgic feel to it, even though they're a very hip group of characters. I love the colours!
Anonymous-Funny you called your bathing suit a "crochet cozzie", that just about sums up the size of it! I have always wanted to travel to Australia-I think it would be a fascinating place to visit. I have also heard that everything that moves (not human) there will bite and kill you, is that just a myth or true?
Dandidoodle- Colorado is one of my favorite places, at one time we almost moved there. I could happily live in the mountains on the side of a mountain overlooking a beautiful river forever.
Cin-Thank you, and the bright background colors were inspired by my children, who all have wildly colored shorts and bathing suits. They exude such vibrancy and life!
Roz- You can come hang out with my bunch any time. You would fit right in!
Carolyn- You are very close to where I grew up. We also have a place on the AuSable river which we will be spending the July 4th at when we go home in a week. MI needs all the nice weather it can get, I heard last year they summer was very short. I will be home soon to test out my sea legs and run weather checks on the Great Lakes!
Ian T- Thank you, getting them to look "hip" is exactly what I was aiming for!
Great drawing! I hope you are having a grand time on the lake!
I grew up spending summers at Granddad's cottage on an lake about 20 minutes inland from St. Joe, MI. There were a bunch of us kids who hung out together, like in your illio, laying out on the raft, boating, skiing, fishing. I still go there and now my kids are hanging with the kids of my childhood friends doing the same stuff.
Ahh.a Michigander.. so you know how lovely it is to be on the Great Lakes of Michigan! I did some boating, fishing and swimming while home on vacation and just the smell of the beach brought back so many wonderful memories. How great your kids are hanging out with kids of your childhood friends. That creats a special bond.
