The early stage of an unfinished illustration for Illo Friday's theme, "small". As time permits this week, I will finish it and post the update.

Starbuck's Reading

I recently sketched "Sarah" while at my local Starbuck's during lunch. It was a quick 5 minute sketch and upon leaving I introduced myself, showed her the illustration, and asked her if she would mind If I posted a picture of her online. She didn't seem to mind though I am sure she is wondering just what is to become of it.

Well, here you are Sarah, and I hope I haven't done you too much of a grave injustice. As I said, it was just a quick sketch and I liked the pose you were in and your bright red sweatshirt. It put me in the holiday mood. Thank you and I hope you enjoy the sketch.

Contemplating Life

I decided to scan all my sketches to file. I carry my sketchbook with me everywhere I go and fear one of these days I may leave it sitting somewhere and lose everything in it. I have my email address and phone number in it, just in case, but I worry someone would just toss it and not care.

While doing so I got interested in an illustration I did on the first of November and proceeded to work on it-ahead of everything else I really need to get to first.

This fellow sat and contemplated what a woman was saying to him all through my lunch hour at Whole Foods, my new favorite place to eat and it's an all-organic food store!

In God We Trust

Due to a short, yet very busy work week and Thanksgiving just around the corner, I've decided to post a very rudimentary sketch for Illustration Friday's theme "free", which I'll finished after Thanksgiving. It was a quick 3 minute thumbnail sketch of an idea I had back in March and it has been in my sketchbook waiting for just the right time to appear. This is how most of my illustrations start with just a line and a whisper of a thought or an idea here and there. I then go on to refine them with many sketches after the first. I think I may just take Cin's lead and try my hand at making this into a bookplate. Cin creates the most outstanding bookplates. Cin, you've inspired me!

I am so thankful this Thanksgiving for my country and for what it stands for. In God We Trust, Truth, Liberty and Justice for All. Amen.

Other things on my drawing board to follow:
1. Final illustration for "Broken", see November 3, 2005 blog entry.
2. A sketch of Starbuck's patron, "Sarah" who was kind enough to allow me post an illustration of her when it's finished.

Happy Thanksgiving and God Bless You All.

Starbuck's Coffee- Ringing in the Holidays

I just love Starbuck's new advertising for the holidays, all line work with red and pale blue and white. I loved their cups so much I brought one home and decided to give it a go in illustrating it for Blind Contour Friday 16. Let me tell you, it isn't easy trying to redraw another's illustration, 3 dimensionally and in detail. Red's my favorite color and Starbuck's advertising puts me in the holiday spirit. For Illustration Friday's theme, "strength". Yoga is a wonderful exercise that strengthens the body and tones the muscles. It's also an excellent form of relaxation and meditation. This was one of those images that just evolved as it often does when I leave my drawing and come back to it. I think it would make a good Yoga CD cover. What do you think?

Crazy Portraits BC Friday15

After doing 4 or 5 totally disgusting BC's of myself, I decided to plead guilty.
There is crazy cool like Niff & Sutter's and crazy uncool.
My BC fell into the uncool category so I stooped to doing just a normal ol' portrait of me. Am I intimated? Heck Yeah! Call me chicken, vain, or just plain old silly but this is as bad as I want to see myself through my progressive lens on any given day.

Unsanitary work conditions and poor wages force the Clean family out into the "night" to look for new accomodations. For a closeup view, click here.
Have you seen them?
From left to right: Vidal-y, Loral-B, Soft -n- Dry, Sensitive Gillett'e, Cutes Tip and Flossy. They may find their way into your bathroom. If they do, treat them well!

Opening Day - Blind Contour #14

For InkFinger's Blind Contour Friday. I am addicted to BC's. I have to apply color as soon as I draw them, so I thought I would let you see how they start.

Absorbed In

Though I believe this blog is in French, you don't need to read it to figure out what is happening, just follow the illustrations. MamLynda follows the life a couple who are expecting their first child.
