Blue about Blue

Yesterday we laid to rest are beloved black Lab, Blue (Registered name: Sadies Blue Boy). Blue is just about 14 years old and was very ill this past year. My husband and I are just sick over losing him; it leaves such a void of happiness in our lives. Blue was the most loving family dog one could ever have with a wonderful disposition yet very protective. His parents were champions and he carried their lineage with the most incredible blue-black coat and build. He was very powerful but always with a gentle and loving heart. He loved his tennis ball and carried it continuously, every ready to have you throw it so he could charge off after it, only to return and drop it at your feet, eagerly urging you to throw it again and again. His energy for play was tireless, his love and protectiveness of us unending and he was ever a faithful companion and friend. Our beloved Blue, you are dearly loved and missed...

I'm so sorry to hear of your losing Blue. Pets become so much a part of our families, always giving so much love and asking for little in return. When they leave our world they suddenly leave a hole and we realise how much they meant to us. I feel sad for you and your husband; I still miss our dog too. Remember the fun you had with Blue and know he can't be sick and suffer any more.
Gentle hugs tou both, Maggie.
Oh, Maggie. I'm so very sorry. Blue looks like a magnificent animal and it is clear how much you loved and valued him. We loved our Mollie, who died a year ago, in a similar way. You'll always miss Blue, but what a glorious privilege to have had him in your life all those years! Take care, dear Maggie.
Maggie-I am so sad for you right now. Losing a such a great family member is so hard. Thank you for sharing this with us.Take care and give your self lots of time to reflect on such a fine dog. Hugs.
Thank you all for your warm and caring comments, this really means a lot to me to know that you care enough to show your heartfelt concern. How great to have such a wonderful support group.
It's a tough time, we keep looking for him and go to check on him, then realize we won't be able to any more. I have many pictures of him on my computer at work which helps a bit. My husband and I are going to build a shadow box of memories of him.
Thank you again, you are all very dear.
So sorry to hear your sad news about Blue. I can tell by the photos what a wonderful dog he was.

Oh dear Maggie, I am so very, very sorry! If there was only a way to patch the hole in your heart I would do it! I can tell just by his pictures and his story that he was a truly cherished being! I cried when I read this as I know this pain and dogs don't live long enough, it's not fair... I'm so glad you had this love in your life! your pal, val

I'm so sorry for your loss: we lost our dog Cooper in January too. It really helped me to put together a memory blog...for my family and friends: http://cooperxoxo.blogspot.com
Maybe it could help you too!

Oh Maggie! God, I am sorry for you loss of Blue. He looks like a wonderful companion. You need a little shrine for him to sit and talk to him and definitely needs a tennis ball somewhere. Pets can never be forgotten or replaced...they are such an important part of our family. Sooo Sorry.
Maggie, I'm so sorry to read this. My heart is very sad for you... the photos of him are wonderful. What great carriage and demeanor in his profile and posture. Sending you and your husband warm wishes for swiftly healing bereavement, and good distractions to fill the Blue-Shaped space in your hearts. Hugs to you-
