Regulars at Starbucks

Most of you know I am a regular at Starbucks at a couple of locations in town. I spend a lot of time on my lunch hour, getting away from the office and sketching to ease my tension.

Most of the Starbucks in town know my husband and I by name as it's our favorite stop when we're together. The employees tell their coworkers that I am the woman illustrator that sketches everyone. This week they wanted me to sketch one of the new employees however this is often difficult as they are behind the counter most of the time. I've decided I need to go back and just stand around the counter and sketch them as they are working. We like the two places we frequent most as the employees are always so cheery and friendly-oh and they make the best Lattes and Mochas in town and we've tried them all!

This fellow is in Starbuck's every day around lunch time. Of course he looks quite a bit different than this illustration. Why? Because I used a dark color palette which makes him look younger than he actually is. His hair is quite gray and he often wears light mutes colors and always black shoes. Experimenting with color and texture is always such a fascinating experience-one I thrive on. I've sketched him twice now and like this sketch the best of the two. The first was a quite 3-5 minute gesture drawing which I may post later.

Hi Maggie;

This is a beautiful drawing! You and I share a passion for Starbucks - whenever I go to town I end up at the Starbucks in our big bookstore. Books are my other passion so it's my favourite spot! Haven't had too much courage to draw where people can see me. Need to work on that....

This is really great. I wish I had the nerve/talent to sketch in public.
I love starbucks! Guess where I enjoy mine? My grocery store of all places. I couldn't believe it when I walked into the Albertsons when we moved here (Las Vegas).
It has turned into such a lovely way to reward myself after a mundane errand!!

I love your sketch of this fellow patron of Starbucks. I wonder, does he know you are sketching him, looks like there's a little knowing glint in his eyes, anyway, really a wonderful sketch!

I too love Lattes, and get one at Starbucks when ever I go grocery shopping....One day I was standing in line, and I had on a t-shirt that said "What would Jesus brew?" and all of a sudden this lady jump up behind me and yelled "Starbucks", now I had no clue what she was talking about, then she said "Starbucks, Jesus would brew Starbucks".....well after composing myself, I said your probably right.....LOL

I love your drawings, you are quite a talented lady......if you lived in the same town as my daughter Lori, you would probably see her their, for she goes into withdrawal if she doesn't get her Starbucks.....
