What are your plans for Labor Day weekend? Are spending time with family and friends doing something fun and different or staying home with a good book, getting some well deserved R & R and munching on a bowl of M & M's and peanuts?

Thanks to all for who commented on my "visitors" illo, I can't tell you how much your support means to me and inspires me.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Illustration Friday ~ Visitors

We had visitors swim in this past week to help Captain SeaCroft in his quest to clean up the sea: Boris Blowfish, Jasper Jellyfish, BuckStar (and you thought I was going to say Starbucks didn't you?) Clam-mity and Corabell Clownfish.

I think I'm in the sea, snail and bug mode of illustrating right now. This illo is not part of the original "captain" concept but one I've had in my sketchbook for some time. These cheery fellows were just wiggling off the page saying "pick us to be your visitors please!"

Illustration Friday ~ Captain

I'm dreaming of captains manning their underwater armies fighting to keep the seas clean. This is only a portion of the actual concept for "captain" however my time is very limited over the next couple of weeks, so I am posting just a vingette of the complete scene.

The illustration I indicated in my previous post is still not finished but I'm enjoying the subject so much. I'll give you a hint...it too has an underwater feel to it. I guess I must be dreaming of a vacation by the sea! Finishing it will have to wait though as my husband's parents are coming from out of state for a visit tomorrow.

I'm working on a really fun illustration for Illustration Friday's "emergency" and I hope to finish it by tomorrow night. If not, please check back here for the finished illo.

Today's Woman

And you thought you had a tough job?

Our daughter Niki works for the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) fighting fires. She works long hours-108 in the last week, averages 4-6 hours of sleep a night and sleeps in trucks or on the ground, and lives on military rations. She is lucky to get a day off, sometimes just a few hours before she is called to another fire.

Just recently, her crew was one of the first to respond to one of the biggest fires in Idaho/Utah since 1910 where over 562,000 acres burned. She's a strong, adventurous young woman, not afraid to get dirty and loves fighting fires. Niki is pictured on the far left below in the rose red dress. She's such a beautiful young woman with a personality to match. She's also in her second year of college. We're so proud of you and all that you've accomplished and we love you so much Niki! You go girl~!

It's Party Time!

Kari at Artsy Mama's is having an Artful Blogging party in celebration of Stampington's new Artful Blogging magazine. I'm joining Kari's party with an illustration created in my own vintage-modern style. I always love a good party and hope you'll join in the fun too! Mind if this fellow joins the party to help serve up the cake and treats~we ladies need to be pampered don't we? And for all those who have a birthday this month, Happy Birthday to you!
If you'd like to see more of my work visit my Flickr account.

Today I opened the most incredible package from the "Queen of Treasures", my Mom. I haven't even had a chance to photograph everything but I can tell you I was just squealing with delight. Vintage, antique, heirloom, you name it! Thank you so much Mom, I can hardly wait to start working with everything. In the bottom of the box was a beautiful white cotton chenille George Washington bedspread. I've already put it on the bed and it looks simply gorgeous!

Moving Day

We are thrilled for our son Adam (21) who bought his first home and moves in today! Congratulations Adam! What an exciting time for you. We love you so much and know you'll really love your new home!

Adam's and his girlfriend Cassie, who we think is just the sweetest young woman; have been out shopping and found this adorable puppy that is soon to be part of their lives. They're naming her "Dairy" because she looks like a little cow. :) She's a "pugle"(pronounced pyou-gull), part pug and part beagle. Isn't she just the cutest?!

This means I'll have to share my son with another woman, but I couldn't think of a nicer young woman than Cassie! All the very best Adam and Cassie, we love you!

We as parents pray for the faith, happiness and success of all of our children and we are so proud of each one of their accomplishments. To all of our children, keep your faith and follow your dreams and you'll find true happiness!
