Times Have Changed
Times and medicine have changed since the 1800's. Small vials of medicine have been replaced with plastic tamper proof containers that come in all sizes-including jumbo size. Thankfully, our medicines and perscriptions now come with ingredients, directions on how much to take, and when to take it, and warnings of possible side effects, etc. I am SO thankful for modern medicine and the new age in which we live in!

"Gourdulicious" Fall Nesting
This week the crisp smell of fall is in the air! The weather is in the 70's and it's one of my most favorite times of year. Unfortunately, with my "nest" under construction, all of my fall decorations are packed away and cannot be reached. Not to be deterred, I collected some beautiful goodies to create a fall piece that I will post here soon.
When we lived in California I was introduce to gourd art. Gourds were in abundant supply, especially during the fall months. I became interested in them and my husband K soon followed. The two of us set off to find the most unique and interesting gourds we could find and still have about 50 in storage. We found this to be an intriguing three-dimensional art medium with endless possibilities. This piece sits above our fireplace. K and I love elk and I created this piece as a tribute to this magnificent animal. To create this design, I used a burning tool, stains and paint.
Over at The Inspired Room, Melissa has kicked off Fall Nesting Week
, so if you are looking for inspirational ideas for fall projects, you'll find a list of fellow bloggers who have posted links to their ideas.

Lovin IT! & Injuries Recovery 4
I am rebelling and want to wear my bikini under my clothes to work, I still want to be on vacation!
Slowly going through the mass of photos we took while on vacation. Reminising along the way as I look at each one of them. Ok, B & NJ, I will get the photos to you, but I am not sending the whole shebang, so it is taking a bit of time. K and I talk every day about what you are up to and we agree, every moment of the trip spent with the two of you was just so awesome-you're the greatest tour guides ever and we learned so much!
While taking photos we saw the coolest grasshopper. Yes, he really is as big as pictured here. They were everywhere and as we walked along, many jumped around us. While I understand they are a nuisance, they're still really colorful and it's not every day you get to see one this big.
Update on my hand and arm: diagnosis, Carpal Tunnel
I already suspected I had carpal tunnel in my hand but never went to see a doctor to confirm it until now. He put me in a splint for 30 days at night time. While on vacation, I didn't have any pain but he said I still have inflamation around the nerves. Now that I am back to work, the pain has returned. Hopefully the splint will help; I started wearing it to work to see if I can speed my recovery along. The splint is a bit big (even though it is for a small hand like mine) and is rubbing the skin off one of my knuckles, so I am a bit challenged at the moment.
I just finished the bi-monthly newsletter (that I am editor of) and have a brochure to create by the 27th and I hope I can manage through it all. Think positive- I know I can!
I am off to bed for some rest to see if that will help too.

We're back from our trip to California where we were able to spend time with two of our four children: son Brandon
and daughter Niki, and our dear friends the Rogers family.
We lived in California before being transferred to the midwest three years ago. Our son Brandon decided to stay in CA when we moved. We flew our daughter in as she lives in another state too attending college.
We headed for the coast right away and spent time in Monterey, Carmel and Pebble Beach. When we lived in CA, we often went there on the weekends so we were no strangers to the beautiful coastal areas but you can just never get enough of it.
It was a beautiful day in Carmel and the weather was so warm we played in the waves and enjoyed the sun.
In front of our favorite Monterey Deli. Their sandwiches are yummy! We are so proud of all of our children and want the very best for each of them as they venture into life taking new paths and following their own dreams.
Our dear friends the Rogers
, their son Josh and daughter Rachel. Sherry is also an illustrator. We met through an illustration board several years ago. We were both members and found out that we lived just 15 minutes from each other. We met one day at Starbucks and became fast friends. It's all been a lot of fast talkin' ever since! :)
The four of us share so many mutual interests that we've enjoyed so many good times together and we are so blessed to have such wonderful friends. We all went to dinner and had such a lovely time celebrating being together again and Kevin's birthday. Pictured here are Kevin and Dale.
Thanks so much Rogers family for the great time and for your generous hospitality. You will always have a special place in our hearts!
